Since the beginning of the season, if there was anything worth investing in, it was the tailored mannish coat. I had been searching high and low for the perfect oversized coat but couldn’t find the right fit that I had in mind. My father is a tailor and has been in fashion design for many years, specializing in unfinished garments with subtle detailing in the shoulders on a blazer to the pleats on a pair of trousers; he can sew anything. He’d mention that there was a coat in his closet that he hadn’t worn in years and in the end used it as a pattern to make me the oversized tailored coat I’ve been looking for all season.
In an attempt to keep up with one of my style resolutions, in which I unintentionally forgot to abide by well before the end of the month, color is the new black. That idea didn’t last more than a few days into the new year, I kind of promised that I would no longer default to black when in need of a neutral and incorporate more feminine pieces to my very black masculine tailored wardrobe.
Does a touch of a red lipstick count for color? Alright, moving forward.
This look has been my winter uniform and I’ve worn each individual piece multiple times, I’ll admit. As photogenic evidence has it however, old habits die hard, and it looks like I won’t be saying a permanent goodbye to the pointed toe anytime soon. I bought these Tibi boots after the fact of realizing that I coveted more than enough pointed toe leather ankle boots but, they’ve become essential to my wardrobe before the salt ruined the bottom of them. The contrast embossed leather monk strap adds a sartorial accent to an all black palette. After what seemed to be a lifetime of searching, I’m never taking this mannish coat off.
